Welcome to Hendricks Tea

Hendricks Tea was established in 1943, during British Colonial era as a result of Mr. Hendricks Mallikage’s vision to provide the Sri Lankan customers with quality tea. Hendricks Tea has been in active business for the last Sixty Seven years and subsequently it is this vision that is the corner stone for our company’s tea production as we strive to provide our community with a product that is renowned for its taste, excellence and integrity.


We are engaged in exporting quality teas and we are among the leading tea exporters in Sri Lanka. Also we are supplying to the local market and we have a network of distribution. Apparently we have made our presence felt in the market by being providing high quality tea to the Sri Lankan market.

Hendricks is pioneered in the export of tea and we work on the basic principle that expertise and rigid hygiene regulations together with modern technology form the basis for an excellent end product. We stand for maintaining high standards in quality and freshness in our teas. From selection of tea up to the consume,r we are vigilant to keep the guidelines accepted internationally.

Our History

From Retail Roots to
Tea Mastery

Our company's humble beginnings at No. 175 Prince Street, Colombo as a retail store started by Mr. Hendricks Mallikage. He was a perfectionist, who learnt the art of tea tasting in order to identify the best quality tea.

Much to his untiring efforts, in selling the finest tea to the consumers, put Hendricks’s Tea on the fast track to become the highest share holder in the domestic tea market within 15 years of establishing the first retail store. Hendricks’s tea surpassed Lipton and Brook Bond tea companies, which were considered as the tea giants during that era. Together with his elder son, Mr. Mallikage Edward Ranabahu, he began a journey to expand the business to provide the best quality tea to consumers in all corners of Sri Lanka. Mr. Edward Ranabahu later became Mr. Mallikage’s successor.

After taking over his father's business, Mr. Ranabahu took Hendricks Tea to new heights by purchasing a tea estate named “Upper Lantern Hill” located in Gampola, in 1989. Mr. Edward Ranabahu is our company’s director and is also the head of the tasting department. He possesses 47 years of invaluable experience and incredible reputation. Currently, we supply tea by the name “Auckland Tea” through John Keells Tea Brokers to be sold at the auction for exports. This has given us the opportunity to work more closely with John Keells tea brokers and has lead us to identify and understand the structure of their work to further our mission in providing the best quality tea to the customers.

What We Do

What We Do at Hendricks Tea


At Hendricks tea we have a work force of 68 people and 16 of them have been with us for more than 25 years. Our Head office is situated at 189, Old Moor street, Colombo 12. We also have branches at 175 Prince Street Colombo, Maho and Ampara. We keep a stock of approximately 100,000 KGs in our warehouse at any given time, and we currently sell about 50,000 KGs of tea per month.
